5 tips on how to draw trousers (dress pants)
Today, we are going to learn how to draw men’s trousers.
Add crease (vertical line)
When you draw dress pants for characters wearing suits, add vertical lines (crease) as highlighted in red in the right image above, and make it look more realistic.
Add fabric tiers in the lower part of trousers
There’s no need to add too many wrinkles in order to make it look neat and fashionable.
However, since there’s something called gravity on earth, hems of pants touching shoes get wrinkles.
By drawing inflected lines and adding tiers like this, you can depict realistic wrinkles of the hems.
Details on the waist which is hidden by jackets are drawn in this way.
The hem of the jacket is placed a little upper from the inseam.
Be careful, the hem of the jacket needs to be not too short nor long in order to look exquisite!
See how the pockets attached
As you can see in the left image above, the mouth of the pocket of trousers is so confined.
Pants with pockets like that in the right image will look like other pants, not trousers.
Add shadows with the image of triangle
Now, learn how to add shadows in the process of coloring.
For parts touching shoes, you would do well to add shadows as if you are drawing triangles.
This simple technique creates a stylish atmosphere of formal dress.
Bear in mind that adding too many shadows will end up giving an untidy look.
There’s a gap between shoes and pants when sitting down
When a character in trousers sits down, with the fabric being pulled, the gap is created between shoes and the hems of the pants.
That means socks will be exposed, remember that you need to draw socks when you draw a man in a suit.
